Sabah - 3ash2a w 3'albana (عاشقة و غلبانة) (English translation)

Arabic

3ash2a w 3'albana (عاشقة و غلبانة)

English translation

A Poor Lover

They tell me call it quits, call it quits, call it quits1
But how can you call it quits, oh my eyes?

I'm such a poor lover, I swear
I'm such a lover and a wretch, I swear
I can't abandon him, I swear
Every single inch of my being2 is melting
in love with my darling

Oh my eyes, Oh my eyes, what can I do, my eyes
They want to deprive me of this beautiful life
They want to take me away
and won't be patient upon me

I'm such a poor lover, I swear
I'm such a lover and a wretch, I swear
I can't abandon him, I swear
Every single inch of my being2 is melting
in love with my darling

Oh my heart, how poor are we both, so poor
Nothing is left for us but your tears, oh my eyes

I'm such a poor lover, I swear
I'm such a lover and a wretch, I swear
I can't abandon him, I swear
Every single inch of my being2 is melting
in love with my darling

If it is destined for us to bid the moon3 farewell,
we will
And if the verdict of fate
is confusion and staying up all night,
we'll stay up all night with no moon

  • 1. the literal translation is 'repent' but this has nothing to do with sinning, rather with giving up on love (i.e. calling it quits)
  • 2. a. b. c. It literally says 'my dress' but again, this is generally what's meant.
  • 3. the moon here is the lover. In Arabic you call someone a moon if they are really beautiful
Let me know if you have any questions about my translation. Good luck.
