(Hinaichi)

Doll Market

Hard-earned 30,000 yen; 3 encounters that make my throat dry
Closing shut the lips that want to scold me, we depart for paradise
"Wouldn't it be great to win 300,000,000 yen" has always been the attitude of this city
Flat chest concealed; I've soothed the adult, so now I take my leave

Aren't you just pretending?
It's make-believe for money
Winning a game of Hana Ichi Monme, aren't you happy?

You have to live and resist, be strong
Because not even a day in this world was kind
You have to live and resist, be strong
Because blaming the world is no use

Huh, how many years has it been already? Just by teasing and making them wait in anticipation,
Easily earning 100,000 yen; 30,000 yen for a shot of magic

You're just pretending
You know, all of this is fake
Winning a game of Hana Ichi Monme, aren't you happy?
How sad

You have to live and resist, be strong
Because not even a day in this world was kind
You have to live and resist, be strong
Because blaming the world is no use

Thanks!

Author's comments:

1) The title of the song is a reference to "Hina Market", a place where hina dolls and tools for Hinamatsuri are sold. It's open from late February until the second day of March. In haiku, the word is associated with spring, which furthers the song's theme of prostitution (e.g. expression "sell one's spring" in Japanese).

2) Hana Ichi Monme - a kids' game with two groups, where players sing a song, then team leaders play rock paper scissors and the winner gets to choose a kid from the opposite team (the one that lost) to add to their own team. Game ends when one team loses all of its members.
It is also used as an allegory for human exploitation, because the game is basically "whoever you name, you obtain". "Aren't you happy to have won" has a meaning of "aren't you happy to be chosen (bought)". But because the protagonist is a minor, they're of course not happy, hence the "sad" right after.

Interesting to note, the first version of this song also had different, more direct lyrics, such as "one night with me is 100,000 yen" and "30,000 yen for one injection", but these had to be altered in order to release the song.
