Odysseus' Claim lyrics

Now the Dawn arose from her couch,
To bear light to the immortals and to mortal men
And Athene told them the tale of the many woes
Of Odysseus, recalling them to mind

'Son of Laertes, of the seed of Zeus,
Odysseus of many devices,
So it is thy wish to get home to thine
Own dear country even in this hour?’

For already have I suffered full much,
And much have I toiled in perils of waves and war;

Poseidon, shaker of the earth,
Stirred against him a great wave,
Terrible and grievous,
Smote him with a great tempestuous

CHORUS:

“Poseidon! Why?!?!?
Oh, wretched man that I am!
What is to befall me at the last?
For I know how wroth against me
Hath been the great Shaker of the Earth.”

Then Odysseus turned from the sea, and fell back in the
Reeds, and kissed earth, the grain-giver, and heavily he
Spoke unto his own brave spirit:
“Ah, woe is me! What is to betide me? What shall happen
Unto me at the last?”

CHORUS AGAIN
