Wir hatten eine gute Zeit (English translation)
Wir hatten eine gute Zeit
At the main railway station, as always everything goes its course (/everything goes on as usual)
The platform announcements drone on in familiar-distorted sounds
I sit alone on a full suitcase near the newsstand
with a dry throat, the ticket in hand.
I prefer to go alone without you to the station
and simply get onto the train without turning round.
That was perhaps the best time
the time of my life,
but now it is so far for me. (? does it mean it was so long ago)
We had a good time.
One day I'll come back, if God lets me.
I hope that you never forget our time here.
Perhaps it's a mistake, to quietly slip away
but I'm starting to miss you loads already
Many a painful farewell follows a warm welcome ...
