Give Me a Lighter

Oh, give me a lighter, let me light up my cigarette
Walk to me slowly, let me watch you

Masts of ships are high
Hearts of efe's* are manful
Hearts of mothers are painful

Fire the gun, o enemy, let my chest burn
Let my friends wake up from their sleep

Masts of ships are high
Hearts of efe's* are manful
Hearts of mothers are painful

Thanks!

This is a folk song, and of course comes with a real story behind it: Returning from a long and dreadful battle, Dumlupinar the submarine, crashes with Swedish wafter Nabuland. Dumlupinar sank into water due to the crash. 22 of 81 staff members who survived the crash had to take refuge in torpedo room of the submarine. They managed to contact the outside with the buoy the survivors threw onto the water surface. Everyone was mobilized to save the 22 survivors but they were running out of oxygen. So they were told to use the oxygen limitedly, not to talk, not to sing, not to smoke. After hours of efforts to save them, in vain, they were again told that they can now talk, smoke and sing. And everyone in Turkey listened to them sing this song, through the telephone line on the buoy.
