Hail Mary Fadista*

Sacred Hail Mary 1
Full of grace
This is a tiny prayer
Of great beauty.

The Lord is with thee;
Blessed art thou, Mary.
Your Son was born one day
In a humble and rough haystack.

Blessed among the women,
Blessed is the fruit, the light,
Of thy womb, Jesus,
Praise and infinite grace.

Our Lady of Sorrows,
Mother of God, if it is sin
Playing and singing fado2,
Pray for us sinners.

No singer is lucky,
Pray for us Virgin Mother
Now, always and also
At the hour of our death.

  • 1. Hail Mary or Ave Maria.

Author's comments:

* - "Fadista" is a singer of fado, a traditional music from Portugal. So, this fado is sung like a 'Hail Mary' or 'Ave Maria' and includes verses of that Roman Catholic prayer.
In this translation I used the traditional language of the prayer (http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Hail_Mary).
In the Portuguese lyrics "Santa Maria das dores" must be "Santa Maria das Dores" (Our Lady of Sorrows or Saint Mary of Sorrows).
