Dulce Pontes - Canção do mar (Spanish translation)

Spanish translation

Canción del mar

Fui a bailar en mi batel*
Más allá en el mar cruel
Y el mar bramando**
Dijo que yo fui a robar
La luz sin par
De tu mirar tan lindo
Ve a saber si el mar tendrá razón
Ven acá a ver bailar mi corazón
Si yo bailara en mi batel
No iré al mar cruel
Y ni le diré a donde fui a cantar
Sonreír, bailar, vivir, soñar…contigo

Canção do mar

thank you for your translation. "Batel" means a little boat I guess?
If I dance (with the present tense) in my boat, I won't go out to the cruel sea (si bailo en mi barca, no iré al mar cruel)
Is it the meaning of the song?
Mil gracias.

You're welcome. It's a beautiful song. Now, batel means little little boat, and in the last paragraph I think she means that if in the future she will dance in the boat, then she is not going to go to the cruel sea. So she is talking something that is still not planned, an idea. So I prefered to used the subjunctive here. In fact, the subjunctive mood is rarely used in English, but it is widely used in Spanish. Thanks for your observation Regular smile
