Chupchik

Чупчик, чупчик, чуба-бупчик, младо момче
Чупчик, чупчик, бабино, бабино бонбонче.

Коня я'а без самар.
Дедо, мили, златни, бабино бонбонче.
Дедо оди на пазар,
Коня я'а без самар.

Чупчик, чупчик, бабино, бабино бонбонче.

  • 1. Well, this part is hard to be translated literally so I'll explain it like this - a very poor man walks on the road. He is skipping while walking - like https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HdgiPDT8t-A . He is so poor that his clothes are patched everywhere and they look like a rag, so he himself looks like a rag.
  • 2. Literally 'his head is hit' so he walks aimlessly like he is been hit in the head
Thanks!

Thank you for this translation. So this words "Чупчик, чупчик, чуба-бупчик" doesn't mean anything? It's just some kind of gibberish?

Don't look for a meaning here. There are parts of at least 3 songs used in these lyrics. One is here https://lyricstranslate.com/en/nikolina-chakardakova-dedo-mili-zlatni-ly... . 'Яката колосана, а главата халосана' is like a saying, meaning 'Не му гледай капата, а под капата' - 'Don't look at his hat but what is under it'. https://lyricstranslate.com/bg/bulgarian-folk-kakva-moma-%D0%BA%D0%B0%D0... here ts the only place I could find the rag part.

Interesting. Thanks a lot for the clarifications. In fact, it is specific for an artist like Goran Bregović to make a mix of several Balkan songs. He was also inspired by Romanian folk songs.

Exactly. It is like la-la-la or something similar.
