Artists who got famous for singing on YouTube

In this collection you'll find artists who rose to fame (to the point of signing contracts and releasing albums) after performing covers or original songs on YouTube. In each item description you'll find information about each artist. It is meant to gather artists known for singing only, not those who did something else (like video blogs).

British performer Jacob Collier started gaining fame with his YouTube covers after they went viral. He later signed a professional contract and as of Feb 2020 has released three albums. He's famous for playing all the instruments and vocals in his albums.

Brazilian singer Ana Vilela became famous after a YouTube video of her song 'Trem Bala' went viral in 2016. It was later recorded in a studio, included in her first album, and covered by several artists around the world.

Artist | United States

American artist Nick Pitera rose to fame after several popular and viral YouTube videos. His renditions of Disney songs are quite famous, to the point of making him perform with the Broadway cast of 'The Lion King' in 2014 when the show turned 15.

Yet unknown Canadian Justin Bieber was discovered at 13 years old by talent manager Scooter Braun after he had watched his YouTube cover song videos, Bieber was signed to RBMG Records in 2008.

New York performer Terra Naomi rose to fame through a performance of her song "Say It's Possible" on YouTube.

Matt was a Youtuber who started as a kid making covers about famous singers and songs. He later started to make his own songs. Nowadays he only sings his own songs and no longer covers.

He began posting YouTube videos of himself playing the guitar and singing various covers, occasionally in Spanish. His videos went viral and he traveled around Latin America. His first single was released in 2011.

She started performing on YouTube at 15. Her video for 'Wo ist die Liebe' (as of March 2019) has reached 2.8 million views.

Pantelis was originally in the Greek Navy for a living, but he started writing songs and publishing them on YouTube in 2012. A video for his original song 'Den Tairiazete Sou Lew' reached 1 million views. He died in 2016 in a car crash.

Vittar's music video for 'Open Bar', which cost her R$ 600 (121 US$ as of March 16 2020), became viral and reached a million views in a month after being published. She ended up being noticed by TV producers, was invited to perform in a Brazilian TV show and released her first album in 2017.

Thank you, but I actually meant artists who got famous on YouTube. It seems he only used YouTube for video blogs, not for singing, so he doesn't fit here.

From what I know, Abraham Matteo was already known before singing on YouTube (he even took part in singing competitions), so he doesn't fit.

I couldn't find any info about him becoming notorious for singing on YouTube, but as I do not speak Finnish I had to rely on a GoogleTranslate of his Wiki page. Am I missing something?
