Enka is a genre of Japanese music, its roots going as deep as the second half of 19th century—it’s what people nowadays commonly have in mind when talking about traditional Japanese music.

The term Modern Enka typically denotes post-WWII enka music—sentimental ballads which utilize traditional Japanese instruments, vocal techniques, and themes. The lyrics touch on such topics as mono no aware (the feeling of being saddened by, and appreciating, ephemeral things), seasons changing, lovers parting, flowers blooming and withering.

Please enjoy, and as always, feel free to add suggestions!
