Visual Kei Artists

Visual kei is a movement among Japanese musicians which emerged in the 80s as a part of the underground scene. Its most notable characteristics are the artists’ emphasis on aesthetics, and the aim to express themselves not just musically, but also visually—hence the name.

Musical genres which have notably influenced the music of VK include glam rock, punk rock, gothic rock, heavy metal and symphonic metal.

I only know that X Japan is said to have invented the name, and some of the first bands to catch on were Buck Tick, Color, and D'erlanger.
