Mauvais Sort

Evil Spell

By crossing your fingers
You end up twisting them.

Trying to keep your mouth shut,
Hiding from evil spells.

Where the lightning rods are hidden
I can feel the sky getting cluttered.

Ah! my hands are tightening,
And I'm gobsmacked
I'll always have a hard time getting used to it.

These cold tears,
These sweat drops,
Will ultimately wear me down.
The road is quite scathing and harsh
Because nothing lasts.

They spit in an open book…
The demons slam the doors,
Wiping out all my bearings.

Where these stories end in vain
24 frames per second.

With the 14G needle open,
Drawing lines and shadows,
Wait, I'm still scarring.

These cold tears,
These sweat drops,
Will ultimately wear me down.
The road is quite scathing and harsh
Because nothing lasts.

Where these stories end in vain
24 frames per second.
With the 14G needle open,
Drawing lines and shadows.
Because nothing lasts, nothing lasts,
I can feel the sky getting cluttered.
Nothing lasts, nothing lasts.

I hope you don't mind me talking so much, but I love talking about music so much so I gotta say something

I finished listening to Oi Boys and Utopie. I love both of them. Oi Boys sounded way less oi than I thought they would. It was only that first song that really made me say "yeah I hear it" The rest of their songs had so much synth which I've never heard in any other oi band. I recall Utopie sounding more oi, but I listened to them at like 4 AM so I honestly don't really remember. I read that the members of Utopie are from two bands, an oi band and a hardcore band, which is interesting

Again, I still find it so interesting how France has its own thing going on there. Maybe the skinheads in France are just really depressed.

Slightly unrelated, but Utopie had a concert in Lille in December. https://utopunx.noblogs.org/
The other bands on the day they played look really good. I tried looking for French bands which were crust punk/on the more heavier side, but I didn't have much luck. But these bands are something I'm definitely gonna check out. It looks like I'm falling in a rabbithole Regular smile

I don’t mind at all! I don’t know many people who like the same music as me, so I really like chatting with you Regular smile
Yeah, Oi Boys have lots of synth, that’s why I love them so much! I’ve seen that Utopie call themselves "cold punk", I’ve never seen that word combination before but I think it fits them well. Post-punk is often called coldwave in France and it’s some of the gloomiest music I’ve ever heard, so yeah I think we’re all depressed in this country and it’s reflected in different genres.

I'm not familiar with crust, I just did a quick search and stumbled on this forum thread: https://maktmissbrukare.forumactif.com/t1366-la-scene-crust-d-beat-en-fr...
Many bands are mentioned (all in uppercase), it may be of interest for your rabbit hole!

I think if I didn't have anyone to talk to music about I'd end up going insane!! I also really like chatting with you
Post punk is genuinely something I want to get deeper into at some point but it affects my mood so heavily that I can't do it. But I know there's so many good things I could be listening to right now
And thanks so much for the link! I love crust punk, I think it's one of the genres I have the most cassettes/cds in

saturninesaturnine    Sun, 19/03/2023 - 13:06

Some of the most famous post-punk bands are not depressive or gloomy at all. For example: Gang Of Four, Magazine, there's also Wire, The Fall, Public Image Ltd... It's a really broad genre with lots of different bands!

By the way, I think it’s awesome that you have cassettes and CDs! I feel like people nowadays, especially your age, don’t care much about physical media.

Thanks so much for the recommendations! I will definitely listen to them.

I love collecting physical media!! I really do think it's the superior way of listening to music. Whenever I go to concerts I end up spending way too much money because of it

To be honest with you, I have no idea what "crust punk" is! When I see the word "crust" I just think about cooking pies xD

minorthreatminorthreat    Sun, 19/03/2023 - 13:38

Crust punk is basically a combination of hardcore punk and extreme metal. An example of a crust punk band is Disrupt. I mention them because one of their songs is on your animal rights collection.

I think the genre is really good. For some reason I've been having a really hard time getting into metal and crust punk is the thing that does it for me
