Voice

(Dana Sokolova)
Quiet. We keep quiet in such a timid and telling way.
We shout with such honesty and feeling
to all the names that are far away
instead of home, so far away.

Who's there? Who's there? My heart hurts.
Who's there? Who's there? My heart races.

(chorus)
Voice, there's this dear voice that rings
and pierces through me.
This dear voice rings in my sleep.

(L'One)
How are you doing, folks? I'm six flight hours away.
It's been such a while1. You're scattered all over the world.
If I offended you, don't hold a grudge2.
Time flies in the blink of an eye, tags on suitcases.

Numbers change, communication often cuts in an instant.
Passport full of stamps, I'm running in circles.
People all around are in a frenzy, they don't feel right to me.
How many words unsaid? Where is that light in darkness?

Everything is interwoven, one way or another.
I put my bets on love, but lost it all.
And how many phantom numbers in my phone book?
What matters is to be alive and healthy.

And this voice in my head is a conversation without words.
Solitude among people, music without notes.
And I don't know what this new turn will bring,
but this voice will sing with me!

...
Voice, there's this dear voice that rings
and pierces through me.
This dear voice rings in my sleep.

(bridge)

...
Voice, there's this dear voice that rings
and pierces through me.
This dear voice rings in my sleep.

Voice, there's this dear voice that rings
and pierces through me.
This dear voice rings in my sleep.

  • 1. ...since we last saw each other
  • 2. "don't keep evil in your soul"

Author's comments:

I'm not quite sure I understood everything. These lyrics sound more like disjointed sentences than a consistent speech, so I have trouble figuring out what they mean to say.
Consider this a WIP until some natives provide much needed second opinions.

Близкий мне голос-doesn't mean the voice that rings near me, it's more like dear to me voice. Also ,not sure about shily (shyly?) Веско-It's more like "importantly" Так честно и ёмко кричим-so honestly and with feelings we shout(scream), or "boldly".

Thanks, I was not sure about these.
And sorry for the typo, I meant "shyly" indeed, though the meaning was off.

petit élève    Wed, 18/04/2018 - 09:08

It seems "веско" comes from "вес" so I suppose "heavily" would make sense, like in "a heavy silence"?

Sophia_    Thu, 19/04/2018 - 06:26

веский- значительный, например, "веский аргумент",
веское слово - слово, которое много значит.

Не знаю, как это лучше сказать по-русски.

petit élève    Thu, 19/04/2018 - 06:39

Ok, that would be "telling" then?

Sophia_    Thu, 19/04/2018 - 06:27

но выпало zero - как в рулетке, да.
Может быть,перевести " lost it all"?

petit élève    Thu, 19/04/2018 - 06:53

Ok, I see, thanks.

Время (падает/летит) осколками в бездну - образный оборот, означает, что время проходит быстро и незаметно. It’s not about what the time is, it’s about what is ‘happening with time’

Passports full of stamps — one passport

сколько в моей записной фантомных номеров -> and how many phantom numbers in my phone book (Leave phantom and drop the notepad:)

Люди вокруг все не те - people around him are not the not the people he wants to see/be with; it is not about their feelings, it’s rather about his

And I think there is a typo in the first line of the song

petit élève    Tue, 01/05/2018 - 22:57

Thanks!

Время летит осколками в бездну -> would "time flies in the blink of an eye" be an ok equivalent? Or maybe something darker?

And yes, the "ins" was a typo Regular smile

Igeethecat    Wed, 02/05/2018 - 01:29

Yes, you can say that unless you have something more poetic on your mind. Is there something like “time disappears in nowhere”?

In Russian it sounds prettier: «время - осколками в бездну»:)

petit élève    Wed, 02/05/2018 - 01:31

Hehe, you Russians have a knack with making despair sound nice Wink smile
I can't think of something as colourful in English at the moment though.

Igeethecat    Wed, 02/05/2018 - 02:03

We can make T-34 (or T-34+) sound nice too:)

— Как на русском языке называется карета для оказания скорой помощи братьям и друзьям? — Танк!
