Comme une reine (English translation)

English translation

Like a Queen

To avoid seeing your curves, your eyes are lowered
The mirror could break you into thousands of pieces
The shattered pieces of you would estroy your poor self esteem
That saves your skin when your heart is big

This hurtful reflection is more violent than bullets
But look, it's you who's taking aim and it's not normal
The lack of loves so big between you and yourself
I want you to see that you're wearing a tiara

There is nothing of your body or your shape to hide
You've nothing to lose and everything to gain
Babe, it's time to reconcile
Your difference and your beauty

You're going to lead the dance
At last you're going to tell yourself "I love you"
You have one existence
You only have one chance
Carry yourself like a queen

Like, like a queen

It's not hate it's art, the art of cheating
When you say your femininity is only good to fuck
The Plan-B*, the girl with a few extra pounds
That we call at the end of the night after a few too many**

You've bottled up your tears but the bottle is going to burst
Someone should break it to free you
The lack of loves so big between you and yourself
I want you to see that you're wearing a tiara

You don't have to change, to wear the uniform
You've nothing to lose and everything to gain
Babe, it's time to reconcile
Your difference and your beauty

You're going to lead the dance
You're going to love yourself like I love you
You have one existence
You only have one chance
Carry yourself like a queen.

Like, like a queen.

Author's comments:

* The Plane of Shadow is a plane of existence in several cosmological models which is a plane of darkness, that hates light and everything is twisted and distorted. Essentially, this girl's image of herself is distorted, as if it were from the Plane of Shadow.

Another probable interpreatation of "le plan d'ombre" would be the stretegy of hiding away in the shadows. (Thanks to the user petit élève for this).

And another potential interpretaion (thanks to user Joutsenpoika) is "the girl/date which is the back-up plan if nothing better comes along."

** "un peu trop arrosée" literally means "watered a little too much" as in drunk, but in English we have several expressions for this, but I went with "a few too many [drinks]".

flingueraient -> would destroy

reflet qui fait mal -> hurtful/painful reflection

c'est toi qui vise -> you're the one taking aim (and firing the bullets)

Comporte-toi -> why not just "behave" ?

Le plan de l'ombre -> nice interpretation, but given the context I'd rather think of "the strategy of hiding in shadows"

Nice adaptation with the bottle too Regular smile

Thank you for the help. Some of these expressions are quite colloquial and it's hard to find a decent translation so thank you.
I'll change them accordingly.

For "comporte-toi" I chose "carry yourself" as a translation because in English we wouldn't really say "behave" in this context. That would be a little too literal and too formal. "Behave like a queen" would mean to act like a queen in all aspects, whereas to "carry yourself like a queen" means to hold or move your body like a queen.

Also a good interpretation, I didnt really think of that. I'll add it to my comment.

Merci!

good point about "carry yourself". I wasn't familiar with that one.

Personally, I had understood le plan de l'ombre simply as 'the date/girl (le plan) that is just there in case of emergency (when no other girl said yes)'. I'm not sure to see the reference to the other astral plane.

Thanks, I'll add this to comment as well. It seems this lyric is very abstract and has many potential interpretations.
Thank you. Regular smile

I've just done the German translation and I was wondering if "Le plan de l'ombre" is more like a "back-up plan", the girl you call if no one else wants to go home with you?

Oops, sorry, I should have gone through the thread first.

Since you're the second person to say this I've decided to change the translation.
This interpretation does seem to make more sense in the context.
Thank you. :-)
