Помада цвета вина - red (wine color) lipstick - это моя вина —> she is saying that he made everything look like it was her fault, like she is wearing lipstick of wrong color - guilty!
Слишком редко понимаю несмешные шутки - So seldom I understand jokes that are not funny
Семь пятниц на неделе is Russian idiom, though 7 was not enough, but 10 is just right :D
Thanks for explaining the "wine lip" thing, I'll correct it.
As for the next two, I understood exactly what the Russian was, but it makes no sense in English, so I had to make it make sense, and that was the best I could do. There is no English idiom for "10 Fridays a week". And, quite honestly, no one understands jokes that aren't funny, so...had to change that one too, just so I would be understood in English. Thanks. Hugs.
C’mon — So seldom do I find jokes funny — is not the same as “not to laugh to pointless (not funny) jokes”
And this is exactly why it doesn’t make any sense in English - it is an idiom by definition, you might find an English equivalent or translate the Russian meaning
OK, I understand. But, what I am trying to say, is that in English, it makes no sense to say "I don't laugh at jokes that aren't funny", because, quite frankly no one should laugh at jokes that aren't funny. So, an idiom is something that says something and conveys a meaning. In English, to say "I rarely laugh at jokes" implies that she's depressed, which is similar in meaning to the Russian, where people apparently do laugh at jokes that are not funny (for some reason, which I cannot understand). The translation still conveys the same meaning, "Under normal circumstances, I would laugh, but I don't feel like laughing now (because I'm depressed). If this is NOT the same meaning in Russian, please explain what the idiom's meaning is, if it's not "I'm so depressed, I don't feel like laughing." Thank you.
I am sorry for confusing you, there were 2 lines - one about joke, the other one about Friday. The second one is derived from an idiom “семь пятниц на неделе “
About jokes - yeah, why one would not laugh about jokes that are not funny? Maybe because “the other one” recites jokes that are not funny?
You're confusing me again. So, to simplify things, what is the meaning behind, "I rarely laugh at jokes that aren't funny"? Does that mean, "Don't expect me to laugh, because this isn't funny?" That seems to be what you have been trying to tell me, which I just now seem to have understood. Either way, I'll change it. I thought it meant, "I'm too depressed to laugh at jokes."
I am sorry for confusing you again. I think you got it and I am not sure it is RU/EN problem or Mars vs Venus LOL
Andrew’s translation is good, it doesn’t mean yours is not good. It’s not a competition, give me a break. With songs like this there is always a challenge to translate (and to understand to begin with). You did great job! Cheers!
Thanks to everyone who helped me understand this song, which I misunderstood in the beginning. Thank you Andrew, and all the others who helped me so much to make this song express its correct meaning in English. Hugs to all.
