Hello Regular smile I require your assistance, my fellow intellectuals.

I have an urge to translate this beautiful poem:

But I can't quite understand certain lines;

  • "But God made no answer, and like a mighty tempest passed away."
  • "And God made no answer, but like a thousand swift wings passed away."
  • "And God made no answer, and like the mist that veils the distant hills he passed away."
  • What is the meaning of "passed away" in this context? I know it means 'to die', but how can that be? Maybe he just disappeared?

    I'd love to hear your opinions on this.

It means subsided, went away, but it does closely hints to the meaning to die as in: wind dies (tempest), mist/fog lifts - goes away, and so on.

Alike a Bolt, disappeared
Alike endless rushed hopes, vanished
Alike the cloud of unknown that cover/traverses distant hills , he's movin on (My perspective )

To put it into more casual terms: he's "left the building" for now, but may never be seen again.
