Caro mio ben

Caro mio ben,
Credimi almen,
Senza di te
Languisce il cor.

Caro mio ben,
Senza di te
Languisce il cor.

Il tuo fedel
Sospira ognor.
Cessa, crudel,
Tanto rigor!

Languisce il cor.

Submitter's comments:

The covering artist list doesn't include everyone who's recorded this, as it is a very popular song for tenors, baritones, sopranos, and altos, both classical singers and others (wh Arsi Nami) so I don't know who's done it and who hasn't. 18th century art song from Italy, written by someone called Giordano but whether Giuseppe Giordano or Thomaso Giordano (no relation to Giuseppe) or some other Giordano is unknown.

2-018-02-20: the video originally referenced has been banned at youtube because the person who submitted ws a source of too many copyright complaints (not necessarily any concening this video). As several other people (who aren't causing complaints) have sumitted videos (which have not been banned) of the same performance I've changed the video reference to point at one that still works.

Mein teurer Liebling

Mein teurer Liebling,
Wenn du mir nur glaubtest:
Ohne dich
Verschmachtet mein Herz.

Mein teurer Liebling,
Ohne dich
Verschmachtet mein Herz.

Dein Treuer
Seufzet allezeit,
Beende, Grausame,
Diese große Strenge!

I think if I had translated to German I would have written "nach dir schmachtet" rather than "ohne dich stockt", but as your German is native and mine was never even reasonably fluent (and has been getting worse for years as I haven't been in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland since about 1993) I think your version is probably much better than mine.
Anyway, thanks for providing a German version of this.

Thank you, I edited my translation.

The translation may be accurate, but as a singer who's studying it in Italian, I don't see how you can fit these lyrics to the original music.

Generally two different sorts of translation are needed: one that gives a faithful translation of the original, and another that gives something that is close to a faithful translation and is actually singable to the original melody. It's very rare to see a translation that does both (and look at "It's now or never" as a translation of "O Sole Mio" for an example of giving up any attempt to be even remotely close to a faithful translation),

Exactly, for example I prefer to look at the one that convey's the meaning in the best way.
