Hissons nos couleurs [Hoist The Colours] (European French) lyrics

Yo ho, quand sonne l’heure
Hissons nos couleurs.
Hissez haut, l’âme des pirates
Jamais ne mourra.

[@Geheiligt], [@Floppylou] I made a few adjustments to the text, but there's a line in the second part I'm not sure about: "Et piller le levant" I found it also transcribed as "Et prier pour la forme". Which sounds better? Any better alternative? Here's a link to this part of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHsgxFmlN78

Hi [@Icey] !

In the video you've linked (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHsgxFmlN78) I think Keira is singing (humming?) "Et prier pour notre âme", which seems correct since lyrics say pirates are caged by time and they're fleeing the Devil.

Also, the actual lyrics on LT "Et piller le Levant" could fit also : "le Levant" is a metonymy for eastern countries : It's often used in poetry and novel (La fille du Levant, Les Minarets du Levant, …). It's an old-fashioned comparaison :

Wikipedia escreveu:

Since the film is taking place in the 17th century, Ottoman Empire (such as others) were very powerful and had real impact on trades (Coffee trade thanks to the janissaries, spices trades), and the way Pirates are speaking with this old fashioned comparaison seems pretty smooth to me.

Let's wait about Philippe's opinion :)

Edit : This Wiki link seems more accurate and complete : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levant_(Proche-Orient)

Sorry [@Icey], I completely forgot to check this out.

In the video you linked, Keira's got a very weird accent when she sings, making the transcription very hard for some parts.

→ Since she is humming, I'm convinced she sings something like 'pour la forme' (I can clearly hear the sound "ou" (from "pour")) rather than 'piller le Levant'.

I agree with [@Floppylou] concerning the section:

Menção:

Du funèbre océan,
Nous le sommes, mais soyons forts

However, "Les morts ne peuvent pas faire voile vers les mystères" makes no sense to me and remains a mystery... I can't really figure it out.
I'll take a closer look tonight, I have to go to work right now.

"Et prier pour notre âme" seems to make more sense to me in this context, talking about plundering the East out of the blue just like that sounds rather misplaced to me x)
I've got another question: what does "On nous sonne et soyons forts" mean here? I just can't seem to be able to make the sense of it...is it possibly wrong too?

I think the verse isn't written properly. I've looked a bit, and they all seem to sing :

It would say that Pirates are... gruesome ? And make their way to the port.
