Rio Reiser is one of the favourite singer from my father

   Fri, 16/02/2018 - 21:24

I read up about it but apparently he died from an hemmorhage due to alcohol abuse, not because of AIDS.
So please eliminate him from the list.

Virus and Los abuelos de la nada

The singer of Virus was Federico Moura and the lead singer of Los Abuelos was Miguel Abuelo.

Both of them were the first known victims of AIDS in Argentina and they both died in 1988

Hi, maluca! Guten Tag! As you have contributed a lot more to this collection than me, I just gave you collaborator credentials here - honestly, I only added the artist I knew that died from AIDS (and did not do research to find more 🙈 😬 ). Don't hesitate on adding more names as you find them. Regards and thank you for all of your suggestions ;)

I read up about it, his girlfriend or wife was denying the claim he had AIDS, threatening to sue the news outlets who reported it. Did she do that?

sandringsandring    Sat, 25/01/2020 - 03:43

No, she didn't. And she'll never do. She can't deny the undeniable. :)

I would wait until we find 3 or 4 more. I will add the ones I find in the comments here in the meantime.

Frankie Ruiz didn't die of HIV, he died of a cirrhosis

malucamaluca
   Fri, 21/07/2023 - 16:28

I'm not sure, there are sources that say his death was due to complications of HIV. Some sources state he had hepatitis, too. Could have been all three causes together.

Don JuanDon Juan
   Fri, 21/07/2023 - 19:42

Well, Wikipedia has no mention of HIV, they only mention he had a liver disease which led him to being hospitalized and dying. I know Wiki is to be taken with a pinch of salt, but they wouldn't (I think) lie in something as serious as the death cause of someone.

malucamaluca
   Fri, 21/07/2023 - 20:03

Well, they are not lying if they're ommitting something that has not been officially confirmed. If you google "Frankie Ruiz HIV" you come across pages talking about it. He was an intravenous drug user, not gay, so maybe his family did not confirm his HIV status after his death, but it is a long-standing rumour.

They weren't all gay or drug addicts.
(#39) Tom Fogerty:
"At some point in the 1980s, Fogerty underwent back surgery, and was given a blood transfusion that was not screened for HIV. This caused him to become infected with the virus and subsequently resulted in his contraction of AIDS alongside his ensuing complications with tuberculosis, all of which eventually led to his death on September 6, 1990"

   Sat, 02/09/2023 - 16:01

Of course not. That was the stigma at the time, but now we all know it can be transmitted by heterosexual relations as well. And blood transfusions of course, but today they are screened.

Thank you for adding Amanda Blake on this list. I'll always remember her as Miss Kitty from the classic western Gunsmoke (I honestly thought she was going to die from something related to her heavy smoking though. I don't know about anybody else but I could definitely hear it on her voice).

Sailor PokeMoon2Sailor PokeMoon2    Sat, 24/02/2024 - 01:54

I'm not sure if he had a singing career but one person that I can think of that caused quite a stir back in the day about their AIDs/HIV diagnosis is Rock Hudson https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Hudson

That's who I think of when I see this page.

Update: I didn't know that he had a page on here or even sang anything I only knew about his acting career. The more you know 😂

Is that artist already on another LT page related to committing suicide (if the page even still exists it might even be one of your pages)?
