Und ein Schließfach bei der Bank
Du bist punk
Du bist punk

Du bist, du bist, du bist, du bist
Du bist, du bist punk
Alles ist punk
Einfach alles ist punk
Wirklich alles ist punk
Sid sei dank

  • 1. In German, saying 'that is sausage to me' means that 'that' doesn't matter to you. I would assume this sentiment is being intensified by the type of sausage specified, or this just makes the phrase funnier in German - since I don't believe the standard version sounds funny to natives, though as a Brit I think it's great!
  • 2. Sid Vicious, of the Sex Pistols.
  • 3. A highly prolific American rock musician, from before the punk era.
  • 4. See Hansi K_Lauer's comment below for a good explanation of this line, and also of the above line 'Wine, wife and punk// Now go on and be punk'.
Thanks!

Author's comments:

Die Ärzte can often be tricky to translate, particularly for me as a non-native who has not lived in Germany. Morgens Pauken was no different, 'Pauken' itself being a new word for me which can mean timpani (aka kettle drums) or as a verb can mean to cram or swot up for an exam of some kind. Since the song seems to have little to do with either I've left it as timpani, since they at least make a noise, which is quite punk.

>" Du wischst das Deutschland-D an deinem Auto blank"
You wipe clean the Germany-"D" on your car

>" Ein bisschen Punk steckt doch in allem"
There's a bit of punk in everything

>" Wein, Weib und Punk
Jetzt mach mal 'nen Punk
Wölfi zieht blank (Gott sei punk)"
are puns to German colloquials:
"Wein, Weib und Gesang
Jetzt mach mal 'nen Punkt (means: don't exaggerate your criticism)
................... (Gott sei Dank)"

>" Punker Maria"
I believe this is a pun to "Santa Maria", which was a Columbus boat,
or a hit by German crooner Roland Kaiser

>" Ich hab' meine Nadel verloren"
Maybe they mean a safety pin ("Sicherheitsnadel"), because that's what punks oftenly wear in their ear (?)

Thank you very much for your suggestions! I have made some improvements to the text using them.

Before they standardized the number plates in the EU the country sign was a separate sticker.
(It was only mandatory for travels outside the country.)
