Hoda la douce (English translation)

French
A A

Hoda la douce

Devant tant de douceur
Dans ce si clair visage
On dit que Caravage
en fut pris de stupeur.

Devant sa peau si blanche
On dit que Michel-Ange
vit que sa profondeur
surpassait la couleur
albâtre des nuages..

S'étant fait apporter
pour mieux voir son portrait,
il vit Hoda la belle
et en fit son modèle.

Son front ? pur comme l'eau.
Son teint ? c'était plutôt
l' albédo , le halo
de la lune là-haut.

Ses grands yeux laissaient voir
la splendeur des beaux soirs
qu'on ne voit qu'en Iran,
où le ciel est plus grand.

oui, mais c'est son sourire
le fin mot de l'histoire.
Un sourire discret,
l'esquisse d'un sourire,
comme une ombre au miroir
qui serait à l'arrêt.

Michel Ange le vit
et, sur ce, le peignit
Il devint à Paris
le plus beau des souris.

C'est Hoda l'Iranienne
qui fit de l'Italienne
la plus célèbre femme,
ce tableau qui enflamme..

C'est Hoda la Persane,
avant qu'on la confonde
qui fut la belle dame
inspirant la Joconde.

Sweet-faced Hoda

Before such great softness
in this beautiful face,
Caravagio himself
was stunned and astonished.
Before its so white skin,
they say Leonardo
saw that its inner depth
surpassed the alabas-
ter colours of the clouds.

That he got brought to him
a portrait of this queen,
Hoda the beautiful
and took her for model.

Her brow? clear as water
Her complexion? rather
the albedo, halo
of the moon up above.

In her eyes one could guess
the splendor of evenings
that in Iran are seen
where broader are the skies.

yes , but it is her smile
the core of the story,
Such a discreet sweet smile
barely the sketch of it,
as, still on a mirror,
a slight shadow might be.

Leonardo saw it,
very soon painted it.
It became in Paris
the most.beautiful smile.

Hoda, the Iranian
made the nice Italian
the most famous woman
in the blazing painting

It's Hoda the Persian
whose role was well hidden
who was the true lady
that inspired the jocund
Mona Lisa.
