Aqueles Tempos (English translation)

Aqueles Tempos

Hoje ainda recordo aqueles dias
Que eu trazia o céu no coração.
Se era primavera não me lembro
Só recordo o amor que nos uniu.

O tempo que passou não conseguiu matar
O amor que eu insisto em recordar
Eu sei que não morreu o que você e eu
Num sonho bom deixamos florescer!

Tanto amor perdido no momento
Que o meu coração compreendeu
Que o adeus chegou como um lamento
De repente o céu escureceu

O tempo que passou não conseguiu matar
O amor que eu insisto em recordar
Eu sei que não morreu o que você e eu
Num sonho bom deixamos florescer!

Hoje, que o inverno está comigo
Triste inverno da recordação
Deixo esta saudade no abrigo
Que fiz dentro do meu coração.

O tempo que passou não conseguiu matar
O amor que eu insisto em recordar
Eu sei que não morreu o que você e eu
Num sonho bom deixamos florescer!

Hoje que a distância nos separa
E que tanto tempo já passou
Quem me olha triste só repara
Que em mim amor não se acabou

O tempo que passou não conseguiu matar
O amor que eu insisto em recordar
Eu sei que não morreu o que você e eu
Num sonho bom deixamos florescer!

Those Days

I still remember those days
when I carried the sky in my heart,
if it was Spring, I can't remember,
I only recall the love that brought us together.

The time that passed couldn't kill
the love that I insist on remembering,
I know it isn't dead, what you and I
in a sweet dream let bloom!

So much love lost in the moment
that my heart understood
that goodbye came like a lamentation,
[and] suddenly the sky turned dark.

The time that passed couldn't kill
the love that I insist on remembering
I know it isn't dead, what you and I
in a sweet dream let bloom!

Now that winter has come to me,
a sad winter memory,
I leave this longing in the haven
that I made within my heart.

The time that passed couldn't kill
the love that I insist on remembering
I know it isn't dead, what you and I
in a sweet dream let bloom!

Now that distance separates us
and so much time has passed,
whoever looks at me sadly will only realize
that the love within me has not diminished.

The time that passed couldn't kill
the love that I insist on remembering
I know it isn't dead, what you and I
in a sweet dream let bloom!

Thanks!

[@Alma Barroca] Can you take a look at this? I have a few doubts. I normally translate just to Spanish and it's hard for me sometimes to do it straight to English. Correct me if I've misunderstood:

Triste inverno da recordação → Sad winter of recollection
Quem me olha triste só repara → Whoever looks at me sadly [will] only realize ?

Sure, Ellen! Regular smile

Honestly, 'Triste inverno da recordação' is confusing. Not a usual construction. I think you did a good choice with 'a sad winter memory'.

'Quem me olha triste só repara' is quite ambiguous. Who is sad? Who looks or her? As such, it can be interpreted (at least in my opinion) two ways:
- 'Who(ever) sees sad can/will only realize (I don't think the verb 'see' fits here) OR
- 'Who(ever) sees/looks at me sadly can/will only realize'

As for the rest, you did a good job. I like to see you practicing your Portuguese Teeth smile

In Spanish 'Triste inverno da recordação' would be something like 'Triste invierno de recuerdo' (lit. recordação = 'rememoración'), it would still make sense but it sounds very...forced?. As for 'Quem me olha triste só repara', I chose to translate it as 'whoever looks at me sadly will only realize'.

Now that I have some time off, I'm brushing up on all my languages Regular smile

Yes, you're correct. Brazilian songs of the 1960's to the 1980's were often actually Portuguese versions of English/Italian/... songs, like this one. This often caused some weirdly translated lines, which at times are confusing even for us natives.

Talk about that! Can't wait for my vacations to start so I get back on my Spanish and French Regular smile
