Sorry (Because I love you)

And it keeps raining, and between the rain and the sea
It's so nice to love
Because I love you
I don't even know where I am nor what day it is today
My night is for loving
Because I love you

I'm sorry, sorry, I love you passionately, sorry 1
I'm just giving my heart away to you, sorry 2
I can't look at the sun anymore, without you
I'm sorry, because I love you this way, sorry 3
Because I see the end of it all in you, sorry
Because I let tenderness speak for me

The wind screams love, I'll go and find warmth
Birds fly away, because I love you
Today I feel young and I know where I'm going
I wanna be with you
Because I love you

And I'm sorry, sorry, because I love you this way, sorry
Sorry, sorry, because I see the end of it all in you
Sorry, sorry, because I let tenderness speak for me

Today I feel young and I know where I'm going
I wanna be with you
Because I love you

And I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, I love you passionately
Sorry, sorry, I'm just giving my heart away to you
Sorry, sorry, I can't look at the sun anymore, without you

Sorry, sorry, because I love you this way, sorry
Sorry, sorry, because I see the end of it all in you
Sorry, sorry, because I let tenderness speak for me
Sorry, sorry
Sorry, I'm so

  • 1. In English there's no distinction between "te quiero" or "te amo" as in Spanish. "I love you" means any of them.
  • 2. In Spanish, infinite verbs are preferred over ing forms. Here, I had to use "ing" due to English structure.
  • 3. Here,"I'm sorry for loving you this way" sounds more natural but I followed the "because" structure of the song title.
Thanks!

Well, I hope this is "literal" enough.

TUSM, Anto!
Yes, literal enough, dw (:
I'm so happy - this was so quick ^^

Do you know that you can use footnotes1 instead of (x)'s?

This is an example1 [.fn]example[./fn] - remove the .'s

I'll try. Last time I used these, the numbers wouldn't show properly so that's why I kept using simple enumeration.

Let me know if you need an assist. It works great and displays well!

Yes G, they are but I'm not a pro at using them and I don't want to mess up my translations. I still need to learn how to use them 😁

GeborgenheitGeborgenheit    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 02:40

Of course, la práctica hace a la maestra. ("maestra" porque eres mujer Regular smile )

MissAtomicLauMissAtomicLau    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 02:43

Voy a asegurarme de practicar en borrador hasta que maneje el tema, jaja.

Torpedo23Torpedo23    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 02:43

Hey Anto,
No worries - it doesn't take much time or practice to get used to them.
They are, indeed, extremely useful once you get the hang of it! (:
And they make reading so much easier, too!

MissAtomicLauMissAtomicLau    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 04:06

Well guys, I think I finally learned how to use footnotes and they're helpful, indeed
I just edited my translation accordingly Regular smile

YAY! High five, Anto! (:

La traducción es buena, pero algunos detalles:

And it keeps raining and between the rain and the sea1
It's so nice to love
Because I love you
I don't even know where I am nor what day it is today
My night is for loving
Because I love you

I'm sorry, sorry, I love you passionately, sorry
I'm just giving my heart away to you, sorry
I can't look at the sun anymore without you
I'm sorry for always loving you2 this way, sorry
For seeing the end of it all in you, sorry
When I let tenderness speak for me

The wind screams love, I'll go and find warmth
Birds fly away, because I love you
Today I feel young and I know where I'm going
I wanna be with you
Because I love you

And I'm sorry, sorry, for always loving you this way,, sorry
Sorry, sorry, for seeing the end of it all in you
Sorry, sorry, when I let tenderness speak for me

Today I feel young and I know where I'm going
I wanna be with you
Because I love you

And I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, I love you passionately
Sorry, sorry, I'm just giving my heart away to you
Sorry, sorry, I can't look at the sun anymore without you

Sorry, sorry, for always loving you this way, sorry
Sorry, sorry, for seeing the end of it all in you
Sorry, sorry, when I let tenderness speak for me
Sorry, sorry
Sorry, I'm so

Espero que sirvan las correcciones.

  • 1. Aquí "between rain and sea" no queda natural, a diferencia del español (en respeto a la formulación)
  • 2. Queda más natural así
MissAtomicLauMissAtomicLau    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 03:01

"For always loving you" es lo primero que pensé pero usé "because I love you" porque la canción ya tiene ese título. Me parece un poco extraño usar "because" de esa manera pero venía con la canción.

Torpedo23Torpedo23    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 03:07

Spanish original aside, both "because I love you this way" and "for always loving you this way" make sense in English and sound natural enough.

GeborgenheitGeborgenheit    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 03:20

Individually they are both correct, but "for always loving you this way" sounds way more natural here to my ears.

Torpedo23Torpedo23    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 03:44

Yes for context. Both could be used, but it depends on the surroundings.
If there is coherence, it shouldn't sound weird though. So it'll depend on what changes Anto makes throughout the text I guess ^^

MissAtomicLauMissAtomicLau    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 03:36

Muchas gracias por las sugerencias G. En este caso lo de "because..." lo dejo porque seguí la frase original de la canción. Además, Torp había pedido una traducción más "literal". Si la canción no hubiera tenido "because...", hubiera elegido "for...", me parece mucho mejor.

Torpedo23Torpedo23    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 03:42

Thanks for taking into account my note about the 'literal' aspect of the translation, Anto.
It's true, that was something I was hoping for.
It seems to me that, again, footnotes could be of use here. Maybe writing lines in the most natural way but adding a note with the 'literal' equivalent? I often do that when translating, and I think it comes in handy for those who would like a more direct/literal translation. Just a passing thought (:

GeborgenheitGeborgenheit    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 03:50

Reading the bottom of her translation and her comment here, I see that you requested a literal translation from her. I corrected the translation without necessarily taking that into account so I apologize. As you know, my aim is to always make sure that translations sound as natural as possible.

By the way I appreciate the shoutout you gave me under your Spanish to English translation (which ofc I corrected as well).

Torpedo23Torpedo23    Sun, 30/01/2022 - 03:54

No worries, G.
We both know you meant well and the way you phrased your comment really shows that you were hoping to offer options for editing post-proofreading. Nothing wrong or bad about that. Thanks for taking the time to review the translation and offer your perspective (:
