UFO (English translation)

  • Artist: Pink Lady (ピンクレディー)
  • Song: UFO Album: Bye Bye Carnival (1978)
  • Translations: English #1, #2

Just by holding hands and making eye contact
That's enough for us to communicate and loving each other
It's sweeter than a kiss
It's clearer than a whisper
You rock my heart
Without the need for words, just by thinking telepathically...
You will understand me instantly
When I want to drink, a bottle of sake fly to me
When I want to sleep, you teleport me to the bed
You always give me one thing after another
It's hard for me to believe
Maybe, just maybe....but no, it can't be true. Right?
But it's fine. Lately I'm a bit...
...tired of men from earth
But I still want to confirm it
I want to see your real face at least once
I check your reflection on the mirror
I even shine a flashlight to you
Even then, you still look normal
Ah, suddenly an orange beam appears
Ah, I'm wrapped in the light
I feel like I'm dreaming
You're taking me somewhere
I knew it! You're wonderful
It's hard to believe, but
I'm not seeing things...this is real!
But it's fine. Lately I'm a bit...
...tired of men from earth
thanked 1 time

Author's comments:

To put into context, this song is about a human girl fall in love with an alien, just like in a fantasy rom-com.

Pink Lady is an idol duo consisted of  Mie(Nemoto Mitsuyo, born: March 9, 1958) and Kei(Masuda Keiko, born: September 2, 1957) who were extremely popular; arguably the most popular idol in the 1970s.

Mie and Kei are chilhood friends, classmates from junior highschool, and also attend a music school together. In 1974 they formed a duo called "Cookie" and participated in a talent show.

After winning that show, in 1976 they earned a contract as professional singers. The company changed their concept entirely; their songs, coreography, costumes, even the stage name. Mitsuyo and Keiko became Mi and Kei. The infamous Pink Lady were born.

Pink Lady were different. They brought something new and fresh. Their popularity exploded. They have 9 songs that reached 1st rank in Oricon chart consecutively. 10 of their songs sold more than 1,000,000 copies each. They won awards. They even released their own dolls and cartoon. Just like one of their song title: "Pink Typhoon", they indeed were like a pink typhoon swept through the 1970s Japan.

Pink Lady also appeared in a lot of tv commercials. Every products they advertised would got a massive boost on their sales.

Pink Lady made one appeareance in Kohaku Uta Gassen in 1977. The next year, December 1978, they refused invitiation to perfom in Kohaku Uta Gassen and chosed to perform in their own show. This was received negatively by the public and seen as disrespect, which later would become one of the factors for their declining popularity. Later they would performed in Kohaku Uta Gassen again in 1989, 1990 and 2000, so they have a total of 4 appeareances in that legendary show.

In 1979, they shifted their focus to American market. One of their single reached rank 37 in Billboard chart. They also got their own variety show in US television: "Pink Lady and Jeff".

Unfortunately, this show floped and cancelled only after 5 episodes.

Focusing on American market means they disappeared for a while from domestic market. Newer idols emerged, replacing them. Music trend also changed. Add that with negative sentiment from their refusal to performed on the respected show: "Kohaku Uta Gassen", and also some personal scandal, Pink Lady's popularity kept declining.

In 1980, Pink Lady announced that their group would disbanded soon. They performed their farewell concert in 1981 and separated.

Later they reunited for a short while and disbanded again 4 times in: 1984, 1989, 1996 and 2003. In 2010, they reunited for the fifth time and announce: "No more disbandment!".

LOL. And I wanna try Cupstar noodle advertised by Megumi and Wink, even though I never see it. (^▽^;)

Which one? original 1970s or the 2004 remade version?

Yeah, 60 years old Pink Lady still have the same energy as they were in their 20s. Impressive.

They still look fit too.

Ah, the latest translation list. No, it shows nothing. Even the URL is 0/0/0/none/none/none.

Maybe another error from this website.
