Czatyrdah

MIRZA.
 Drżąc muślemin, całuje stopy twej opoki,
Maszcie krymskiego statku, wielki Czatyrdahu!
O minarecie świata! o gór padyszachu!
Ty nad skały poziomu uciekłszy w obłoki,

 Siedzisz sobie pod bramą niebios jak wysoki
Gabryel, pilnujący edeńskiego gmachu;
Ciemny las twoim płaszczem, a jańczary strachu
Twój turban z chmur haftują błyskawic potoki.

 Nam czy słońce dopieka, czyli mgła ocienia,
Czy szarańcza plon zetnie, czy giaur pali domy,
Czatyrdahu, ty zawsze głuchy, nieruchomy.

 Między światem i niebem, jak drogman stworzenia,
Podesławszy pod nogi ziemie, ludzi, gromy,
Słuchasz tylko, co mówi Bóg do przyrodzenia.

Chatyr-Dag

MIRZA.
Trembling, the Muslim kisses the feet of your base,
Oh, mast of the Crimean ship, mighty Chatyr-Dag!
Oh, minaret of the world! Oh, mountains' padishah!
You, who above the rocks' level, into the clouds raise,

Sitting now next to heavens' gates like a high
Gabriel, watching over Eden’s building;
The dark forest – your mantle, and janissaries of fright
Your turban of clouds do embroider streams of lightning.

For us whether the sun burns, or the fog casts shadow,
Whether locust crops destroys, or infidel burns homes,
Chatyr-Dag, you’re always deaf, motionless.

Between the world and the heavens, like a dragoman of creation,
Sweeping under the feet grounds, people, thunders,
You listen only to what God says to what he creates.
