Das ist der Moment (English translation)

German
A A

Ham' so viel geschrieben, so viel getankt

This Is The Moment

Six in the morning, get the little guy out of bed
We're too tired, but the cornflakes are perfect
We drive to school and park in back in the schoolyard
You give me a kiss, call out "Daddy, I've got to go!"

I wave goodbye, drive around the block
Turn the radio on, junk as usual
Turn the little knob, drive out, away from all the concrete1
And they're playing our song!

This is our day, this is our time and they won't fly past us anymore
'Cause this is the moment, the one you'll dwell on when you think back some day

We've written so much, boozed so much
We've broken heads and burned guitars
I'm not exactly sure anymore when I last slept
Always on the hunt for the perfect song

We stand behind the stage, gather in a circle
Now it's time, we're ready too,
We're here behind the curtain, hear how you sing
Linkin's playing in the Park, we're playing on the Ring!2

'Cause this is our day, this is our time
And they won't fly past us anymore
'Cause this is the moment, the one you'll dwell on when you think back some day

This is the moment (4x)

You3 deal it out, you cash it in, good break,4 you lose, don't ask what it all means

You fail, you try, you promise, you take a chance, here comes a new beginning

This is our day, this is our time
And they won't fly past us anymore
'Cause this is the moment, the one you'll dwell on when you think back some day

This is the moment (4x)

  • 1. I'm guessing "raus aus dem Beton farhren" is a variation on "raus aus der Statdt fahren," to go for a drive out of the city into the countryside.
  • 2. (Linkin Park, get it?) These are two simultaneous rock festivals in Nuremburg, Rock im Park and Rock am Ring (link below). Ringstrasse is the usual name for a street that runs in a circle around the downtown of a German city, often where the medieval city wall once was.
  • 3. In German, "Mann" means "man," but "man" means "one," and yes, it is an example of (English) 'man' being used to mean the same thing as 'person.' When feminists write "man(n)" they are implying that only sexist men would write "one" does or thinks or says that thing, when really it's only "men" who do. Thanks to matilda2340 for this explanation. I'm not really sure it exactly conveys what Die Toten Hosen are trying to say here, or what that even is, but at least it's a starting point.
  • 4. As in the game of pool or billiards.
Thanks!

"We heard you liked that song about us playing at Rock am Ring, so we played it at Rock am Ring"

Overall, nice job!!

But here are a few suggestions anyway:

1st block: Hof is short for "Schulhof" = playground.

2nd block: Wink dir hinterher = wave goodbye to you.
Radio an = turn the radio on (Radio anmachen).
fahr raus aus dem Beton = drive out from the concrete.

4th block:
so viel getankt: I'm pretty sure this deals with drinking: (had) so much to drink.

Regular smile

nice, thanks for the translation,
but i think on paragraph number 4, "getankt" (which has been translated by "boozed") is not "getranken" (drink and everything) but well "gentankt", (done), I think it should be "we have done so much

anyway, thanks for the translation
