About translator
A lament for Calum MacLean written by his brother, John. Calum was a highly reputed expert on Gaelic folk-songs both in Scotland and in Ireland, until his death in 1960.
You may notice that my spelling is sometimes different from that used in the text on the video. That's because I've chosen to write what I believe John wrote a bit more than half a century ago, not the rubbish imposed on the Gaelic world by the majority of a politically appointed (in 1982, approx) committee who hi-jacked the revision of examination rules for Scottish Gaelic highers and turned their brief into a divorce between the accepted spelling of Gaelic and the phonology of the language. Many Scottish Universities haven't accepted that nonsense (the government didn't dare try to force them) and neither have I. Recently I was informed by a very reliable source that Nova Scotia will not touch the revised spellings with a barge-pole, so the solid traditions of Canadian Gaelic won't be changed by that nonsense.
