1) Accordion: This musical instrument seems to have appeared, in its basic form, around 1820.
Researchers agree that Christian Frederich Ludwig Bushman, a German musical instrument maker invented the accordion in 1822.
A few years later, in Vienna, Gilles Demian patented his own accordion invention (1829).
Shortly after it started becoming very popular. Especially in Russia, by mid-19th century, it ranked first in popularity. Its use spread all over the world reaching even as far as Australia and the Latin American countries where it was introduced by German or Italian immigrants.
2) The Battle of Waterloo: It took place on June 18 in the year 1815, near the little village of Waterloo that was some 20 km away from Brussels.
It was Napoleon’s last battle, which ended with his defeat, followed by his abdication on June 22.
The battle was an extremely deadly one and a total fiasco for Napoleon.
Ferrat uses the name of Waterloo, to refer to a battle or war, in general, as a synonym to failure, regardless of who may win or lose a battle.
In French the names “La Bérézina” or "Waterloo", when said, mean failure or fiasco.
