You have to be real
- 1. lit. so small on earth/the planet, but sounds really weird in English. But essentially conveying the feeling of helplessness in a world which is overbearing
- 2. or simply "mere"
- 3. could replace the "didn't exist" with "weren't real" if one prefers it, could also add "truly" before nothing to emphasize it more, but not part of the original lyrics so opted not to do so
- 4. or "after death/dying"
- 5. lit. if you don't exist who will take care of me after (death being insinuated)

Not sure how much is needed in terms of backstory. But this is a song originally written by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson (2 of the members of ABBA) for their musical called "Kristina från Duvermåla", a story based on a Swedish novel series portraying the hardships of a Swedish family emigrating from Sweden to the US during the 19th century. This song in particular being when one of the main characters are struggling with her belief in God and finding a purpose with all the hardships she has been through ever since they left Sweden. Essentially someone undergoing an existential crisis at a difficult time in their life. There's a synopsis of the plot on wikipedia for those interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristina_fr%C3%A5n_Duvem%C3%A5la
