Fueron tres años (English translation)

A A

It was three years 1.

You don't talk to me, my precious,
don't talk to me, or look at me either.
It was three years, my love,
three years far away from your heart.
Talk to me, break the silence!
Don't you see that I am dying?
And relieve me from this torment
because your silence already says good-bye.

What things life has! 2.
What a thing to have to cry!
What things fate has!
My path will be to suffer and mourn
But, let me kiss your lips
just for a moment, and then, I'll leave.
And relieve me from this torment,
because your silence already says good-bye.

I still have fire on my lips
from the farewell kiss.
How could I think you were lying
if your black eyes, for me, were crying?
Talk to me, brake the silence!
Don't you see that I am dying?
And take away this torment
because your silence already says good-bye.

What things life has!
What a thing to have to cry!
What things fate has!
My path will be to suffer and mourn
But, let me kiss your lips
just for a moment, and then, I'll leave.
And relieve me from this torment,
because your silence already says good-bye.

And take away this torment
because your silence already says good-bye.

Author's comments:

1. I thought whether this should be expressed in singular or plural, in English. Finally I went for singular, "It was", as a period of time.
2. "What things", kept literally to maintain the repetition. Could have been, "The things life has".

I was sure that it should be
There were three years
- but I was wrong.

Thank you for the translation!
I am wondering why you chose to translate the title this way. Doesn't it simply mean "three years went by" ?
