Hei kevät

Lokit lentää Suomeen ja kirkuvat
Valo täyttää huoneen sameet ikkunat
Mä nään postin tuoneen Lindorffeja
Ne luulee kai mun kuolleen
Farkkutakin taskusta löytyy pari euroa
Mä puen sen päälle, vaikka onkin melkein pakkasta
Lähikaupan edusta täyttyy jälleen dekuista
Ja taas muistan

On toukokuu ja mul ei oo ketään
Taas kaikki muut aamulla herää
Vastahan oli talvi,
Mä en oo vielä valmis tähän
Hei kevät
Vastahan oli talvi,
Mä en oo vielä valmis tähän
Hei kevät

Kaivopuisto täyttyy taas nuorista
Ruohikolle läikkyy niiden juomia
Mä tahtoisin vaan päihtyy ja sammua
Mut kotiin mennä täytyy
Liian vähän vaatetta, eikä mul oo kavereita
Joiden kaa päälle puettaisiin koruhaalareita
Äiti koitti illalla soittaa kuulumisia
On hiljaista

Kenen vieressä makaat, kuka saa pussaa sun mahaa?
Kenen kaa jään tänne oottaa kesälomaa?

On toukokuu ja mul ei oo ketään
Taas kaikki muut aamulla herää
Vastahan oli talvi,
Mä en oo vielä valmis tähän
Hei kevät
Vastahan oli talvi,
Mä en oo vielä valmis tähän
Hei kevät

Hello, Spring

Seagulls are flying to Finland and screeching
Light is streaming in through the room's dirty windows
I see I've received collection letters in the mail
They probably think I've died
I find a couple of euros inside the pocket of my denim jacket
I put the jacket on even though it's almost below zero outside
Drunkards have begun to accumulate in front of the corner store again
And I remember once more

It's May, and I have no one
Everyone else wakes up in the morning again
Wasn't it still winter just now?
I'm not ready for this yet
Hello, spring
Wasn't it still winter just now?
I'm not ready for this yet
Hello, spring

Youths are gathering in Kaivopuisto again
They spill their drinks onto the grass
I'd like nothing more than to get drunk and pass out
But I have to go home
I'm not wearing enough clothes, and I don't have friends
With whom to get dressed in school coveralls
In the evening, mom tried calling me to check up on me
It's quiet

It's May, and I have no one
Everyone else wakes up in the morning again
Wasn't it still winter just now?
I'm not ready for this yet
Hello, spring
Wasn't it still winter just now?
I'm not ready for this yet
Hello, spring

The sun is shining and it's raining, is this what it means to be free?
To be able to leave without you pining for me?
Who do you lie next to, who gets to kiss your belly?
With whom will you stay here to wait for summer vacation?

It's May, and I have no one
Everyone else wakes up in the morning again
Wasn't it still winter just now?
I'm not ready for this yet
Hello, spring
Wasn't it still winter just now?
I'm not ready for this yet
Hello, spring

Author's comments:

1. A "Lindorff" is a collection letter, named after a debt collection agency that used to go by the same name (the company formerly known as Lindorff changed its name to Lowell in 2018).

2. "Vastahan oli talvi!", particularly the first word "vastahan", does not have an exact equivalent in English. It expresses astonishment and anxiety at the seemingly sudden passage of time from winter (to spring) in the vein of, "How is it spring already?".

3. Kaivopuisto (lit. "Well Park") is one of the oldest and best known parks in Helsinki. Kaivopuisto is particularly popular in springtime and especially around Vappu (1 May), when the park's various open air events attract tens of thousands of visitors - especially students who are looking to enjoy a picnic and engage in heavy drinking.

4. "Kouluhaalari" refers to the student coveralls commonly worn by university and polytechnic students in Finland. These coveralls are typically color-coded by faculty and/or major and heavily ornamented with patches that reflect the student's personal participation in various student events, many of which are held in public spaces such as parks.
