Hi, I lived for 23 years in Thrace of Greece, where the population is half greeks and half turkish-speaks, so I know that Karanfil must mean literally "black sheet" 8) (maybe carnations have black sheets, I don't know).
This song could be a greek traditional song, they are strikingly similar! :O
I believe (now once more) that the people of balkan are deeply brothers and they don't know it! ;)

Yes,it means cloves,but also it has a nice traditional story,which describes why lovers in turkey always give each other this flower.and about the meaning,I think Linerva is right.

I like the song very much and it is a good translation that you have made in english, but could you please correct the spelling in the original text, :confused: for instance she does not sing
"...sprema i peva.." she sings:
"..sprema i pjeva.."
and
"Karanfile, cveće moje iz bašče" should be:
"Karanfile, cvijeće moje iz bašče"
and also
"kad ja nemam svoga drago kraj sebe" should be:
"kad ja nemam svoga dragog kraj sebe"

it is only minor flaws but it is what separates bosnian from other languages therefore it is important to get i right, ;)

Thanks, Melaa! I admit it's precisely those little differences that I can't easily get as someone whose understanding comes from Macedonian, so when I'm not sure, I rely on lyrics transcriptions, but they're not always accurate. Normally I check by listening as well, but the softest sounds on the endings can be hard to tell if you're not sure. And yes, the details are where the fun is ;)

Marinos25, that is very true :) I see a lot of similarities that I don't think people appreciate enough. Imagine if people could put aside their differences and politics to simply enjoy the music...
