My Horse

Versions: #1#2#3#4
In the evening when darkness fall
I will take my horse for a walk.
We’re two in meadows, faithful horse and I,
We shall walk along the meadows at night.

Night sends blessing stars and they shine.
No one see us when we ride.
Only we are there on dark green meadow,
Only faithful horse and I walking there.

I‘ll sit on the back of my steed,
And I’ll tell him run by his wish.
Run across the meadow endless deep at night.
Run across the endless meadow of mine.

Let me see the place even once
Where fields are meeting the sun.
Lingonberry light of the scarlet dawn
Oh, I wonder whether it's there or not.

Meadows and fields and wellsprings
Distant lights of villages are seen.
Golden rye and flax with its curly blue.
I love you my Russia, oh, I love you!

Years promise harvest and grain.
Though times are never too plain.
Sing your song, oh rye, sing your song, my flax,
How I am fond of Russia, you tells.

Sing your song, oh rye, curly flax be high
We the two my horse and I walk at night…

What a great song, never heard it before; everybody listen at 01:13... & 02:49... this man grew goosebumps as high as the Alps - I tell ya!!!

Great translation as well, thanks a lot for this one!!! Regular smile

...just a humble recommendation for an alternative interpretation, 4th stanza, last line: "Oh, I wonder whether it's there or not"

Thank you for your kind words. I tried to convey the beauty of the song, and I am happy that I am up to the task. Your interpretation of the last line in the 4th stanza is very apt. Do you mind if I change mine to yours?

You are welcome, Irina! You indeed did capture the beauty of this song and brought it over into English. And of course you may do whatever you like with my recommendation! I wouldn't mind a tiny bit but rather feel kind of proud if you use it for your translation Regular smile
