La lega

Sebben che siamo donne
Paura non abbiamo
Per amor dei nostri figli
Per amor dei nostri figli
Sebben che siamo donne
Paura non abbiamo
Per amor dei nostri figli
In lega ci mettiamo

A oilì, oilì, oilà
E la lega la crescerà
E noialtri socialisti
E noialtri socialisti
A oilì, oilì, oilà
E la lega la crescerà
E noialtri socialisti
Vogliamo la libertà

E la libertà non viene
Perché non c'è l'unione
Crumiri col padrone
Crumiri col padrone
E la libertà non viene
Perché non c'è l'unione
Crumiri col padrone
Son tutti da ammazzar

A oilì, oilì, oilà
E la lega la crescerà
E noialtri socialisti
E noialtri socialisti
A oilì, oilì, oilà
E la lega la crescerà
E noialtri socialisti
Vogliamo la libertà

Sebben che siamo donne
Paura non abbiamo
Abbiam delle belle, buone lingue
Abbiam delle belle, buone lingue
Sebben che siamo donne
Paura non abbiamo
Abbiam delle belle, buone lingue
E ben ci difendiamo

The lega

Though we are women
We are not afraid
For the sake of our children
For the sake of our children
Though we are women
We are not afraid
For the sake of our children
We organize ourselves in legas1

A oilì, oilì, oilà
And the lega will grow
And we socialists
And we socialists
A oilì, oilì, oilà
And the lega will grow
And we socialists
We want freedom

And freedom does not come
Because there is no union
Strikebreakers with the master
Strikebreakers with the master
And freedom does not come
Because there is no union
Strikebreakers with the master
They are all to be killed

A oilì, oilì, oilà
And the lega will grow
And we socialists
And we socialists
A oilì, oilì, oilà
And the lega will grow
And we socialists
We want freedom

Although we are women
We are not afraid
We have beautiful, good tongues
We have beautiful, good tongues
Although we are women
We are not afraid
We have beautiful, good tongues
And we defend ourselves well

A oilì, oilì, oilà
And the lega will grow
And we socialists
And we socialists
A oilì, oilì, oilà
And the lega will grow
And we socialists
We want freedom

And you gentlemen
Who are so proud
Lower your pride
Lower your pride
And you gentlemen
Who are so proud
Lower your pride
And open your wallet

A oilì, oilì, oilà
And the lega will grow
And we workers
And we workers
A oilì, oilì, oilà
And the lega will grow
And we workers
Want to get paid

A oilì, oilì, oilà
And the lega will grow
And we socialists
And we socialists
A oilì, oilì, oilà
And the lega will grow
And we socialists
We want freedom

  • 1. As was the case with the first trade unions in industry, rural organizing "in lega" workers, literally united them, in an analogous expression to British unions. In fact, unity was an indispensable premise for giving rise to "resistance", i.e. the conflict with the counterparties to obtain better working conditions: given the better structural position of the employers, any division within the world of work, particularly on the occasion of strikes, would have condemned the claims to failure. Unlike trade unionism, in the countryside the leagues did not gather workers with a specific qualification or a certain establishment, but organized the laborers of a limited territory, which usually coincided with a "parish", a village, a fraction.
Thanks!
