The cord

[Verse 1 - Oli, in the role of the embryo]
I could have been a big artist, a Nobel prize or a gangster,
To be born in your arms, to see your wrinkles to see how much I grew,
Your heartbeats make me imagine your smile,
I will live in your world, together with your memories.
Let me call you "Mummy", it's not often, that's true,
I want a sunny place in your secret garden,
Why didn't you want me ? You must have your reasons,
There probably wasn't enough place in our little house,
Dry your tears, I'm only a seed that didn't grow up,
I don't know myself, and you, tell me how you imagine me,
I was too hurried, that was maybe too soon,
In memory of me, hook on the wall a frame with no photo on it,
Describe me the view of your bedroom, sing to comfort me,
Sometimes, I laugh imaginating the name I would have been given,
Death, life : I don't know anything about it, when I think about it, I lose myself,
I'll never see him but, please, mummy, make a little brother to me,
Just remember my love, enjoy, have a walk around,
You would maybe be sadder if I had seen the light of the day,
I would maybe have left the house, make our lives a mess, by the way, where is my father ?
Sea, flowers, sun, friends, missed birthdays,
Sadness, fearness : I'll never know,
What is it like to breath ? Talk me, I don't wanna see you in tears,
You didn't keep me in your belly, but let me a place in your heart.

[Chorus]
Mummy, how is outside ?
The strong love between us.
I'm not alive, neither dead,
But I still feel the cord.
My child, you know I love you,
And I ask you to forgive me,
I'm not right, neither wrong,
And I still feel the cord.

[Verse 2 - Bigflo in the role of the mother who aborted]
Firstly, Mummy loves you, you have to know that,
I think of you everyday when I see myself in the mirror,
You would look like me, I hear your laugh in my dreams,
And I feel like something is missing at every mornings,
But you would look like your father, this coward left us alone,
At this time we were all a bit lost,
And it hurts me, his blood would flow in your veins,
And me, I loved him like I love you,
I'm young, I don't have any money,
I haven't finished my studies yet, and I'm alone,
I wasn't ready to welcome you, I have some difficulties to live well,
And since he has gone, it's even worse,
Between copybooks and baby diapers, rent and school lessons,
I would have drown in my days, crushed by the costs,
I had to make a choice, at the edge of the cliff,
I prefered not to be a mother, rather than being a bad one.
I imagine ourself in a park, dirt splash on our shoes,
Fearing the time passing by,
You hold my hand, you talk to me with your eyes,
I don't hear anyone else, I only feel the both of us,
And I didn't want you to have a hard life, to know my difficult ends of months,
And your father would probably have been missing more often than you,
We'll see each other next time,
I didn't give you life so that you don't have to live mine.

[Chorus X2]
Mummy, how is outside ?
The strong love between us.
I'm not alive, neither dead,
But I still feel the cord.
My child, you know I love you,
And I ask you to forgive me,
I'm not right, neither wrong,
And I still feel the cord.

Mummy, how is outside ?
The strong love between us.
I'm not alive, neither dead,
But I still feel the cord.
My child, you know I love you,
And I ask you to forgive me,
I'm not right, neither wrong,
And I still feel the cord.

[Outro]
Mummy, how is outside ?
My child, you know I love you,
The strong love between us.
And I ask to forgive me,
I'm not alive, neither dead,
I'm not right, neither wrong,
But I still feel the cord.
And I still feel the cord.
But I still feel the cord.
And I still feel the cord.
But I still feel the cord.
And I still feel the cord.
But I still feel the cord.
And I still feel the cord.
The cord.

Author's comments:

I think you understood that the song is talking about the umbilical cord, I didn't find it useful to precise it in the title (Like "The (umbilical) cord").

In French the title "Le cordon" doesn't precise neither what type of "cordon" we're talking about, but we quickly guess it's talking about "Le cordon ombélical", litteral translation of "The umbilical cord".
