The sleeping child

Let the sleeping child dream
Of castles wreathed in blue smoke
Let him dismantle the sky
Outside it’s always the same… It’s always the same

The street corners like borders
And always remembering to keep it buttoned 1
The surrounded town covered in frost
Since then it’s always the same

Time manhandles
Those men who drag
The weight of their bodies
Their empty phrases
Their dry tears
Their years of effort
The great roads
Where the frost advances
And the patrol outside

The cobbles barely resound at all
Under the heavy tread of the half-men
Fists clenched tight around their anger
Their eyes as if deprived of light

Perhaps one day if God intervenes
The rain will go back up to the sky
Towards our eternal remorse
But it’s always the same outside

Time manhandles
Those men who drag
The weight of their bodies
Their empty phrases
Their dry tears
Their years of effort
The great roads
Where the frost advances
And the patrol outside

And if he is to live here long
Most of all let the child dream

Would you say that the city is surrounded and it is also covered in frost - or - that the city is surrounded by frost. It seemed a little ambiguous to me.

nos immobiles remords - I think that is how I arrived at eternal - can't be shaken off ergo here for ever ergo eternal but maybe that's a bit liberal?
