Michèle Torr - Lui (English translation)

English translation

He

He, you know, has the words needed to amaze me
it's true, he knows how to make me smile, comfort me
I could have never imagined he would leave.

He, his life, it's adventure, music and girls
too bad, I accept him as he is,
nothing is ever finished and if he's back I'd say 'yes'.

It would do me good to see him again,
and find me again in private with him
it would do me good to see him again
and find again our forbidden games. 1

He, often, has love shouts, has childish words,
one day with flowers, yet the next day
he no longer has anything of what I expect

It would do me good to see him again,
and find me again in private with him
it would do me good to see him again
and find again our forbidden games.

He, he says, there's no rock'n'roll without King,
it's true there's never love without spleen,
I know, but if only he [could] come back tomorrow.

He and me, it would be like before and even a bit more
I think, I would tell him 'I love you' simply
like that, letting me go between his arms.

It would do me good to see him again,
and find me again in private with him
it would do me good to see him again
and find again our forbidden games.

  • 1. (Probably) A reference to the film Jeux Interdits (1952) by French director René Clément.

je le prends comme il est -> rather "I accept him as he is"

Ça m'ferait du bien -> rather "it would do me good" (that's a bit odd in French too, like if seeing him was like an healthy diet Regular smile )

jeux interdits -> that expression has become a kind of cliché due to the title of this iconic movie

cris d'amour -> "cris" (shouts), not "crise" (bout/crisis)

Un jour avec des fleurs, le lendemain pourtant il n'a plus rien de tout ce que j'attends -> "One day with flowers, yet the next day he no longer has anything of what I expect"
The French is a bit cryptic to begin with.

si seulement demain il revenait -> if only he [could] come back [to me] tomorrow (would that he came back to me soon)

ce serait comme avant, même un peu plus -> it would be like before and even a bit more (the whole stanza is in conditional)
