I knew that and right at the beginning I translated this verse exactly as it is now. As you see it was literal, but I decided to change it before submitting.

The reason for that was quite simple: I asked myself what was the meaning of this song. I knew it only in the version performed by Julio. Regarding that he sings it in a sad and teary mood I got the feeling the lyrical subject longs for his beloved town and he’s aware that most probably he will never see it anymore. The rest was a consequence of this interpretation.

Also the usage of Subjuntivo in many verses suggested that. Only this particular verse didn’t fit in this concept, because it should have been “quiera” and not “quire” and for sure it’s not a mistake - there’s no doubt what Julio sings. This way I decided not to translate literally.

So it’s another tango of Carlos Gardel, I didn’t know that. I don’t know whether it was written for this film, because it’s 5 years older than the film, nevertheless, it shows a completely different story. As I now understand the singers is on the ship to Buenos Aires and he is going to see it, so my initial version was correct and it's back.

This implicated further changes, otherwise the whole text wouldn’t make sense. I made them.
