Mother, Part II
As you awoke early in the morning
You are greeted with a view of Mauna Kea, frosted in snow
The tresses of your hair waves in the wind
Your bare feet steps on the cold dirt of the Earth.
The fervent glow of a fiery mountain
Likens to that of the rising sun
Climbing higher and higher above the ocean
Joining the company of the lone morning star
And the ghastly remnant of the daylit moon.
Along the trail, something catches your eye
Something reflected on the edge of the water
Etched in bushes, trees, hills, grass and stone
Behold, at last, the Mother.
- Mauna Kea:
Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano on the island of Hawaiʻi. Its peak is 4,207.3 m (13,803 ft) above sea level, making it the highest point in the state of Hawaiʻi. Most of the volcano is underwater, and when measured from its underwater base, Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world, measuring 10,211 m (33,500 ft) in height. It is about a million years old, and has thus passed the most active shield stage of life hundreds of thousands of years ago. In its current post-shield state, its lava is more viscous, resulting in a steeper profile. Late volcanism has also given it a much rougher appearance than its neighboring volcanoes due to construction of cinder cones, decentralization of its rift zones, glaciation on its peak, and weathering by the prevailing trade winds. Mauna Kea last erupted 6,000 to 4,000 years ago and is now considered dormant. The peak is about 38 m (125 ft) higher than Mauna Loa, its more massive neighbor.

Cuando despiertas en la mañana
te recibe la vista de Mauna Kea congelada por la nieve,
las trenzas en tu cabello se mueven con el viento,
tus pies descalzos pisan el frío barro de la tierra.
El fervoroso brillo de una montaña ardiente
se iguala al del sol que se alza
cada vez más arriba del mar
y que acompaña al lucero solitario
y el terrible retazo de la luna luminosa.
Por todo el rastro, algo te llama la atención:
algo que se refleja en la orilla del agua
y se talla en matorrales, árboles, cuestas, hierba y piedras.
¡He aquí, finalmente, la madre!
