I grew up with this song, and listening to it as a little girl I just thought that this was a song about overcoming one's own fears, being strong and tough and having one's job/work/chores done while being highly aware of the close presence of natural enemies :-) The comedian actor Yuri Nikulin who originally performed this song was unbelievably popular, very much loved and still is a household name in Russia.
* I asked around and decided to avoid the word "weed"... I think "grass" is a more generic name even if you'd like to make this a song about "weed" and getting "stoned" as well as to see a parallel to the "weed industry" which is... legal in selected states, while being still illegal ... on the Federal level? Poetry and art are such that different people can find something they can relate to... So there you go! The original song had the bunnies cutting the "Magic Grass", which can be anything really - anything of value that is in an abundance and needs to be processed for profit, requires manpower and long hours, and at some point it becomes "too much" to even care about "what's what"... except you feel the need to stick to the task and have the project done in order to get paid.
