Night and day

Versions: #1#2#3
Enrique
Today they told me they saw you around the city
Walking on the street in darkness
The night has come already and there's an effect, the time stands still

Juan Magan
Today they told me they saw you on the sand
At the beach party under the full moon
As a consequence of that great effect and dance dance dance

Enrique
There's heat in the city
There's heat in the bay
Come we went on partying night and day
International fusion dance cause it brings joy
Come on that party goes on, night and day

Juan Magán & Enrique
Dance dance dance dance
Dance all night and day
Dance dance dance dance
Dance all night and day
Dance dance dance dance
Dance all night and day
Day day

Enrique
Today they told me you're the queen of the night
That you move your waist with indecency
When night arrives there's an effect ,the time stands still

Yandel
You're not ready to dance alone
You feel the rhythm and you lose control
You're the envy [of the floor] shaking all over
That's why dance, dance dance

Enrique
There's heat in the city
There's heat in the bay
Come we went on partying night and day
International fusion dance cause it brings joy
Come on that party goes on, night and day

Juan Magán & Enrique
Dance dance dance dance
Dance all night and day
Dance dance dance dance
Dance all night and day
Dance dance dance dance
Dance all night and day
Day day

Juan Magán
Moon street, light of day
Black white it's turned on
Rum from Cana, witchcraft
Santa Cruz blue bay
Less clothes, wet
Pure fire, cold water
Life's a carnival
Dance all night and day

Yandel
There's heat in the city
There's heat in the bay
Come we went on partying night and day
International fusion dance cause it brings joy
Come on that party goes on, night and day

Enrique
There's heat in the city
There's heat in the bay
Come we went on partying night and day
International fusion dance cause it brings joy
Come on that party goes on, night and day

Juan Magán & Enrique
Dance dance dance dance
Dance all night and day
Dance dance dance dance
Dance all night andday
Dance dance dance dance
Dance all night and day
Day day

Cool translation! The song is very catchy, although some of the Spanish parts are confusing me, mainly this part:
"Fusión internacional baila que trae alegría
Venga que siga la fiesta de noche y de día"
Your English translation made it a bit clearer to me, but I'm thrown off between the indicative being used in the first line and then the subjunctive used in the second. I see that your native tongue is Spanish, so do you think that "baila que trae alegría" could be understood as "Those who dance have joy" (i.e., a general statement), therefore making "Venga que siga la fiesta de noche y de día" a wishful request of "Come (you) who follows the party day in and day out"?
Or, is "venga" and "siga" not considered subjunctive in some countries? I was also thinking this could be a possibility, and if this is true, then it could be understood as "Come on, 'cause the party continues day in and day out." I'm only familiar with Mexican-Spanish, and so if I read the second option, I'd translate it to "Ven, 'que sigue la fiesta..."

Thanks, some suggestions:
noche y de dia > night and day
me dijeron que te vieron > they told me they saw you
Ya llegó la noche hay un efecto y se detiene el tiempo > the night has come already and there's an effect, the time
stands still
En la fiesta de la playa > at the beach party
Consecuencia > as a consequence/result
nos fuimos de fiesta de noche y de día > we went on partying night and day
Fusión internacional baila que trae alegría > International fusion, dance 'cause it brings joy / 'cause it's fun
Baila de noche y de día > Dance all night and day
te descontrolas > you lose control / you get out of control/ you go over the top
meneandote toda > shaking all over

Could you please provide more useful feedback than just saying 'This is not a good translation.'? That means, can you give suggestions of the improvements you think this translation needs?

simongerardobriensimongerardobrien    Sun, 18/10/2015 - 22:49

Evfokas has provided the necessary improvements already. Those additions are good. However they have not been incorperated into the main translation.

Wouldn't it be better then if he gave a rating instead of you voting on account of his comment? SweetLatina seems to be still active, I don't doubt she will come to the site and edit whatsoever.

simongerardobriensimongerardobrien    Wed, 21/10/2015 - 22:29

I rated the translation two stars as It seems to be little better than one from Google translate. It was not to do with his translations. His suggestions were posted 18 months ago so I don't think they will be taken into account.

@simongerardobrien: I have to disagree with you there. I've been following Sweet Latina's translations for more than a year, and I've rated and left suggestions/corrections in her Spanish to English translations. Yes, mistakes like these are common for her; but she's a fluent Spanish speaker and I'm certain of her abilities as a translator. I know her work, nothing she's submitted is comparable to a translation on GT. At best, this deserves 3 stars for effort, maybe 4 if she makes corrections. I'll send her a PM, she was just only yesterday; so she can come back to this translation and make corrections. For all we know, she doesn't have a subscription with notifications for this translation, I know I unsubscribe to things a lot and it takes a while for me to find things.

And no offense to you, but are you a native/fluent/studied speaker of either languages? I don't want you to feel attacked, but that raises flags when someone gives low ratings, just joined and hasn't set up their languages as of yet or has made any contributions to this site.

simongerardobriensimongerardobrien    Fri, 23/10/2015 - 02:31

I am sorry if I offened you or Sweet Latina. I just gave my honest opinion that this translation, seems insufficient to publish. It seems very close to GT. With evfokas's suggestions It would be almost perfect. I know both languages quite well. There should be no flags. The option to rate a translation is there and I gave my honest opinion, and also my reasons.

kerakemaskerakemas    Fri, 23/10/2015 - 02:58

I personally agree with you, simongerardobrien. I also don't think you have to be a fluent speaker in both languages to read a translation and think, "This doesn't flow quite right in English".

For example, these lines just sound really awkward in English:
'When night arrives there's an effect and time stood'
'Dance at night and at day'

Overall, she has done a good job I think. But just a few sentences I think could be tweaked, just as evfokas has suggested. Regular smile

simongerardobriensimongerardobrien    Fri, 23/10/2015 - 03:28

I'm happy that you see my point and for you comment. As a native English speaker I felt the same @kerakemas

Comment above for the reason of my rating. Will recast vote once changes have been made to this translation.

BesatniasBesatnias    Fri, 18/03/2016 - 07:33

Did it not improve after the corrections were made?

phantasmagoriaphantasmagoria    Fri, 23/10/2015 - 03:10

A PM has been sent to Sweet Latina to review her translation, if she doesn't reply promptly or within a reasonable time frame (say, 2-3 days) feel free to add your own translation, if you feel that you must (I do this sometimes too, if a translation isn't good and a user won't answer me back after some time). I know she's been online recently, I'll leave a comment with any updates that she does make. I'll be reviewing any translations done recently too with suggestions or corrections.

@Sweet Latina: Ya te mande un mensaje privado sobre la situación, hay miembros aquí que te han dejado comentarios con sugerencias para que puedas corregir tu traducción. No puedo hacer mas que eso, así que toma acción o las estrellas que te agregaron se van a quedar. Como te dije en el mensaje, cambiare mi rating siempre y cuando corrijas tu traducción. Si tienes alguna pregunta, mandame un mensaje de regreso, buen día.

simongerardobriensimongerardobrien    Fri, 23/10/2015 - 03:31

This translation did not really matter to me too much however thank you for your help. Yes I see your process, to contact first and then if needed to make some changes independently. I didn't know It were possible.

phantasmagoriaphantasmagoria    Fri, 23/10/2015 - 03:36

I saw that a fellow mod made a comment on this, and I took a look because I know Sweet Latina's work, and I wasn't sure what the issue was until I saw about the rating. Yes, we usually do this kind of process first; so I took all the steps before doing anything else. I respect everyone's opinions on here, I've already been accused of being "aggressive" about things like this, so I'm trying to remain as neutral as I can be, but still give my opinion. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email or message. Thank you for your time.

simongerardobriensimongerardobrien    Fri, 23/10/2015 - 03:43

Yes, anyone should be allowed to have an opinion without fear of being labled as aggressive, I agree. Excellent I will. Thanks also.
