Nous sommes un [We Are One] (European French) (English translation)

D'Un grand projet?
Ceux qui nous ont quittés
Seront là pour te guider.
Ton voyage vient de commencer.
Dans la peine ou la joie
Rien sur terre ne nous vaincra.
Nous sommes fort ô combien
Nous sommes un.
Toi et moi sommes pareils
Tout comme la terre et le ciel
Une seule famille sous le soleil.
Ton courage, ton soutien,
Tu les trouveras chez les tiens
Car nos coeurs et le tien
Ne font qu'un!
Tant que tu vivras ici, c'est là ton destin.
Quand tu seras grande tu comprendras.

English translation

We Are One

In our lives there are
So many things we see
Without understanding them
Cause time goes its own way
Whatever our purpose
Without waiting for us
And yet you will see
We'll walk close to you
Whatever the whims of fate
Like lions by the millions
By the heart becoming one
All together with you
We are one
Why can't I
Simply be me
Without your law
Can I make my journey alone
Or am I the object
Of a grand project?
Those that left us
Will be there to guide you
Your voyage is just beginning
In grief or in joy
Nothing on Earth will defeat us
We are strong oh how
We are one
You and me are alike
As well as the Earth and the sky
A single family under the sun
Your courage, your support
You will find them among your kind
Cause our hearts and yours
Are one
As long as you live here, this is your destiny
When you grow up you will understand

"Quels que soient nos dessins" --> I'm pretty sure the correct word would be 'desseins', not 'dessins'. Which would mean purpose/intent/goal/plan/project/I'm sure you get the point.

"Ceux qui nous ont quittés" --> 'ont quittés' is in the past tense Wink smile

"Ton voyage vient de commencer." --> this is more a matter of English grammar, so feel free to ignore it, but shouldn't it be either 'has just begun' or 'is just beginning'?

"Dans la peine ou la joie" --> 'peine' means sorrow/grief

"Tu les trouveras chez les tiens" --> 'les tiens' means your family/those who are like you/your kind/etc.

"c'est là ton destin." --> more like 'that is your destiny'

Apart from these tiny details, great translation Regular smile

Thanks Regular smile And just so you know...
You're right about the line "Ton voyage vient de commencer" it seems I forgot the "is" :p I guess that's just what happens when your brain moves faster than your hands

Pardon my insistence regarding the "Tu les trouveras chez les tiens" part, but...I don't think 'in you' really carries the meaning of 'les tiens'...WHY YES I ENJOY PLAYING THE ANNOYING FRENCH TEACHER. SO SUE ME.

OH NO :O It seems I forgot to change that!! And please don't think I was trying to ignore you it was just my lack of observational skills Teeth smile

crimson_antics    Thu, 20/09/2012 - 00:35

Glad to know you weren't ignoring me...or else I would have been real sad :O

Also, I was wondering if you'd take a look to a couple of translations I made a couple of weeks ago? They're French to English rap translations, and I wanted to know if you understood/thought they made sense?

Sure no problem!! Regular smile

Thanks Teeth smile
I'll just link you to the artist page, since I'm the one who translated all their songs anyway. Also, if you ever want to know what quebecois rap might sound like...;)

Your translations are very good!!! You did well with difficult texts considering all their songs seem to be politically or socially motivated so hats off to you Regular smile And even if there was any correction or improvement I had for you it would seem Pierre got there first Teeth smile

Thanks for taking a look Regular smile
I must admit, all those political terms almost killed me  So I'm happy to know it makes sense.

Tant de choses qu'on voit -> maybe "so many things we see" ?
