This poem by the Mexican poet laureate Octavio Paz (1914-1998) is included in his book of poetry "Libertad bajo palabra".
An English translation of this poem by the American poet Muriel Rukeyser was adapted by Eric Whitacre for his choir song "A boy and a girl".
