Свет солнца бледно-золотой;
В листве ещё деревья.
Все люди ещё спят,
Жизнь тихо утекает
День за днём...
После бессонной ночи
В душе бушуют чувства,
Грозят сорваться слёзы:
Дать волю им нельзя.
Я слишком мудрая,
Слова же столь банальны:
Я слёзы за улыбку спрячу...

Мне кажется, тут скорее "я слишком благоразумна" (не даю волю эмоциям), "а слова слишком банальны, обычны" (то есть не выражают суть). То есть нет выхода: ни покричать, ни выговориться. Остается прятаться и улыбаться. Диана, прав ли я?

Yes, PZ, you are absolutely correct. But we had this discussion many times, sometimes, translator makes choices that reflect his own position, and I am totally fine with this for my “poems”
If for Z, words were “material” - so be it. If he wants to follow your advice and change it, I’d welcome it.
