Μιά μελαχρινούλα ήρθε μιάν αυγή
μέσα απ' τη φωτιά και την οργή
τα γλυκά τα λόγια πιά τι να της πουν
δε θέλει, δε θέλει να την αγαπούν.
Μοιάζει με το δείλι σαν μελαγχολεί
κι άμα την κοιτάξεις γιά πολύ
δυό χιλιάδες βέλη την καρδιά τρυπούν
δε θέλει, δε θέλει να την αγαπούν.
Δέκα παληκάρια παν' να σκοτωθούν
γιά τα δυό της μάτια που ποθούν
άδικα την πόρτα της καρδιάς χτυπούν
