Arise, arise

Even on the waves there is fighting
Where fish and flesh are woven into the sea
One stabs the lance while in the army
Another throws it in the ocean

Ahoy

Arise, arise, seaman arise*
Each does it in his own way
One thrusts the spear into a man
Another then into the fish

Arise, arise, seaman arise
And the waves cry softly
In their blood a spear is lodged
They bleed quietly into the ocean

The lance must be drowned in flesh
Fish and man sink to the depths
Where the black soul dwells
There is no light on the horizon

Ahoy

Arise, arise, seaman arise
Each does it in his own way
One thrusts the spear into a man
Another then into the fish

Arise, arise, seaman arise
And the waves cry softly
In their blood a spear is lodged
They bleed quietly into the ocean

Arise, arise, seaman arise
And the waves cry softly
In their heart a spear is lodged
They bleed themselves dry on the shore

They bleed themselves dry on the shore

It`s very interesting where did you know such meaning. Please, say me!
"Reise, reise" as "Arise, arise"

It comes from the Middle High German verb "risen," which means "to rise." I come from a town with a large fishing/sailing background, so this kind of language is often used around me.

Being the great translator that Flopsi is and being the perfectionist I am, I had to head over here as soon as I saw her rating here. This is a magnificent translation.

It's also too bad you have not been active here for a few years.

Doesn't look like "learning German" to me.

GeborgenheitGeborgenheit    Fri, 09/04/2021 - 14:23

Me either, looks like the user behind the translation was really proficient.

Btw it does say on their profile that they are learning German, my mistake. But yeah I agree.

Ah, yes, I see - "studied". Maybe some 5-star-ratings will change this to fluent.

Well like I said, they haven’t been online in a long time, so
I doubt anything will happen. Hopefully the user does come back online soon though.

All we can do is read wonderful translations like this one.

Just checked the German translation. They're not as good as this English translation but alright. You can never tell why somebody left and maybe they'll return. Sometimes feedback scares away users though it should just help to improve. We sure would need more translators like this. So let's hope for the best.

Flopsi, these are the actual German lyrics and translation, believe it or not, I was skeptical at first, but then I googled the lyrics and by God he had the lyrics spot on.

Oh no. I'd love to get rid of that rule allowing translations of other sources. This is really confusing borrowing translations done by others.

Hey, du bist neu hier - willkommen!
