Submitter's comments:

An old Sardo-Corsican song in Gallurese dialect.
Many Gallurese children lost their fathers during the Savoy rule, due to many reasons.

English translation

Without Father

I’ve seen her passing by, just now:
she held her son in her arms, crying,
she was hugging him tightly to her bosom
because he no longer has his father's love.

She raises her beautiful child
never telling about her sad misfortune,
but he must know, because mom sings,
because every night she sings to him this way:

Sleep, you, my son,
sleep, my dear child,
anyway you know that God
cannot abandon you.

Dad has gone in flight,
sad is your destiny,
your mom, in life and in death,
always will console you.

Sleep, sleep…
