Srpska mi truba zatrubi (English translation)

Srpska mi truba zatrubi

A Serbian trumpet sounded

A Serbian trumpet sounded
In the village of Drenovo
Prepare yourself, chetniks
A great battle is upon you.

At the head of company goes
Vojvoda Jovan Babunski
Behind him leads the company
Vojvoda Vasil Veleshki.

Jovan Babunski shouted
Seize the village
Seize the village
Stevan Dimitrov is there.

Jovan Babunski shouted:
"Surrender, Stevan!"
"I won't surrender, Jovan,
I'm the Bulgarian vojvoda!"

Vasil Veleshki shouted:
"Throw your bombs, chetniks!"
The house started burning
Then, Stevan spoke from the house:

"Let me go, Jovan
My company is going to die in flames."
Serbian trumpet was blowing,
While village of Drenovo was burning.

Thanks!

Author's comments:

The song comes from the early 20th century when Serb chetniks and Bulgarian komite were fighting over Macedonia. The specific event is Battle of Oreske livade (1905), when Serbs ambushed the company of Bulgarian vojvoda Stefan Dimitrov and annihilated it.
