Hello, Sciera,
Many thanks for your words and your good advices.
I took it to heart and corrected my translation accordingly.
With "Wave" I was not sure for 100% anyway.
you can see in the original a " it em>",
that in my opinion refers to a non-mentioned challenges,
the young man in the temple had to assume to get the 'answer'.
In all other sentences was used 'he', when the young man had meant.
So I have not changed this.
What do you think?
"At "Dort, in der Mitte des Volkes steht er"
you can see in the original a " it ","
Where is there an "it" in the orginal?
Did you read the wrong line?
It says: "There in the middle of the people he stands,"
And I forgot to mention one line:
"Back with the people in the circle he stands,"
means
"Mit dem Volk zurück(gekehrt) steht er im Kreis"
or
"Mit dem Volk im Kreis zurück(gekehrt) steht er (da)"
or
"Zurückgekehrt, steht er beim Volk im Kreis"
Well, I'm not quite sure whether all these three translations are right but I think so. And all of them mean something different.
You've right:
"Dort, in der Mitte des Volkes steht er" was the wrong line and I've changed it.
That one I mean and didn't change is "There, in the middle of a circle it lies" you haven't mentioned anyway .
At "Back with the people in the circle he stands," I took your third translation, but instead of "beim Volk" I took "mit dem Volk", 'cause the writers wrote "with" and not "at" or "to" (the people), so I think that the young man stands together with the people inside the circle.
By the way:
To understand the song better, I did some research on 'youtube' and had to find out, that these text here is only sung in the album version. At the concerts they (Dio, new Rainbow) usually mixed up some lines and changed some words.
Like this:
"There in the middle of the circle he stands,
Searching, seeking.
With just one touch of (concert: the strong right hand) (studio album: his trembling hand),
The answer will be found."
or:
"Daylight waits while the old man sings,
Heaven help me!
And then like the rush of a thousand wings,
(concert: He's gone) (studio album: It shines upon the one).
And the day has just begun."
and:
"When the bell began to (concert: ring) (studio album: sing)"
While singing the song I was confused from time to time
One more question for the last line about the temple and the people:
What do you think, before the young man went to the temple, they didn't know that there is a temple at all, or they only didn't know what it is all about the temple and the king? In the first case ("Whaaaat, there was a tempel???"), your translation were correct (von dem Tempel...), in the second case("Oh, what happened at the temple???), probably my first (über den Tempel...).
Really good translation.
But you did the tempus wrong in some cases:
"Dort, in der Mitte des Kreises steht er,"
"Das Tageslicht wartet während der alte Mann singt"
"Dort, in der Mitte des Volkes steht er"
"Mit nur einer Welle seiner starken rechten Hand,"
Here I would say "Wink" or something like that.
"über den Tempel und dem König." (last line)
I would say "von dem" instead von "über den".
