«Спи, ёлочка, бай-бай!»;
English translationEnglish (poetic, rhyming, singable)

There in the woods a Fir was born
There in the woods a Fir was born.
She also grew up there.
In any season She was slim
And evergreen, I swear.
The blizzard used to sing a song:
"My little Fir, good night!"
The frost kept hugging Her with snow
To make Her feel alright.
Sometimes a timid bunny-boy
Runned out there jumping high,
Sometimes a wolf, an angry wolf,
Directly trotted by.
The snow is crunching in the woods –
No doubt, it's just a sleigh.
A little horse with shaggy legs
Is running far away.
The horse is carrying a sleigh.
The man, who's on the route,
Cut down our little Fir today,
Cut at the very root.
And there She came, so elegant.
A Christmas tree we've got.
A lot, a lot of happiness
To all the kids She brought!

In the forest a fir was born
In the forest a fir was born,
In the forest it grew,
In winter and in summer,
It was slim and green
A snowstorm sang a song to it:
“Sleep, fir, hush-a-bye!”;
Frost covered it with snow:
“Look out, do not freeze to death!”
A scaredy grey bunny
Jumped around under the fir,
Sometimes a wolf, an angry wolf,
Passed by and trotted around.
Hark! The snow in the thick forest
squeaks under the sleigh,
A horse with furry legs
Is running in a hurry.
A horse is hauling firewood
There is a man on the sleigh,
He has cut down our fir
At its very root.
And here it is, all dressed-up,
It came to us for the celebration,
And brought kids
Lots and lots of joy.
